FAQs
World Team USA initiated the creation of World Team Foundation and is an important part of our history. However, World Team Foundation is a separate and independent nonprofit organization governed by its own Board of Trustees.
In short, no. World Team Foundation Trustees determine how Foundation resources are deployed to be consistent with the Foundation's charitable purposes. World Team USA may receive Foundation grants, as may other qualifying ministries and organizations.
An individual may have assets they want to dedicate to Christ's mission which are different from a routine financial contribution. These may include, but are not limited to, appreciated stock, real estate, ownership in a business, or other significant assets which have been accumulated over a lifetime. In addition to potential tax benefits and the simplicity this offers the owner, World Team Foundation also provides a way for those assets to become enduring Kingdom resources rather than simply being converted into a one-time gift. The distinction is largely one of purpose. A direct contribution to World Team USA supports the important ongoing work of its ministry, whereas a gift to World Team Foundation is intended to be acquired, managed, developed, invested, or multiplied so the original act of generosity can continue producing resources for Christ's mission over time. For example, a donor might contribute:Financial assets, which can be invested and managed to provide continuing support for ministryReal property, which might be retained, developed, leased, sold, or otherwise used strategically to create Kingdom resourcesA business or business interest, which may be operated, grown, transitioned, or ultimately monetized in a way which continues generating resources for missionThis also gives donors an opportunity to think beyond a single organization or immediate need. World Team Foundation can connect resources with ministries, opportunities, and partnerships where they can have a significant and lasting Kingdom impact.World Team USA is an excellent choice for a donor who wishes to contribute to a specific project or mission operating currently. In contrast, World Team Foundation provides an opportunity for a donor who wants an asset to be cultivated so its impact can continue well into the future. The Foundation bridges the gap between generosity and enduring resources.
At its heart, the motivation is simple: They want their generosity to outlive the gift itself.Legacy — They want their life’s work and accumulated assets to continue serving Christ's mission well beyond their lifetime.Multiplication — They value the possibility of an asset continuing to produce resources for ministry rather than simply being spent once.Tax Efficiency — Certain gifts of significant or complex assets may offer charitable and tax advantages compared with selling the asset first and donating cash. Individual circumstances vary and donors should consult their own tax and legal advisors.Ease of Transition — A donor may prefer to transfer an asset rather than personally undertake its sale or disposition.Purpose for Significant Assets — Donors may have accumulated stock, real estate, a business, or other valuable assets and want to see those resources ultimately dedicated to Christ's mission.Wider Kingdom Impact — Donors may want their resources available for opportunities beyond a single missionary, ministry, geography, or immediate need.
Partnership — Donors making significant or complex gifts may value working with the Foundation to understand how their resources can create lasting Kingdom impact.
No, not every asset is automatically accepted. Every significant and complex gift must be evaluated individually. The Foundation has the required expertise and takes the time to consider the nature of the asset, assess if the asset is appropriate and aligned with our mission, and examine the potential liabilities, costs, and restrictions. Due to this careful consideration, we welcome the opportunity to discuss your unique goals prior to beginning the assessment process. Confidence in Stewardship — The owner wants to know a significant asset will be thoughtfully managed rather than simply liquidated and distributed.
Creating Enduring Resources — Significant assets can be invested, developed, operated, or otherwise managed so they continue producing resources for Christ's mission over time.
Greater Opportunity for Multiplication — Larger pools of capital and productive assets provide more opportunities for investment, business growth, property development, and other strategies that can increase the resources ultimately available for ministry.
Long-Term Funding Capacity — Rather than depending entirely upon recurring donations, productive assets can create continuing sources of income that help support Kingdom work year after year.
Ability to Undertake Larger Initiatives — Significant resources allow the Foundation and its partners to pursue opportunities that may simply be beyond the reach of organizations operating primarily from annual contributions.
Greater Flexibility — Unrestricted or broadly purposed assets give the Foundation the ability to respond to emerging ministry opportunities, changing circumstances, and needs that may not have been anticipated when the original gift was made.
Generational Impact — A substantial asset given today can potentially support people and ministries far into the future, allowing one act of generosity to influence multiple generations of Kingdom work.
Depending on the type of asset and the donor’s individual circumstances, contributing appreciated assets directly to World Team Foundation, a 501(c)(3), may provide significant tax advantages. These may include:Charitable Deduction — A donor may qualify for a charitable income-tax deduction, subject to applicable tax laws and limitations.
Capital Gains Tax Advantages — Donating appreciated assets such as securities, real estate, or business interests may allow a donor to avoid or reduce capital gains taxes that could otherwise result from selling the asset first.
Greater Charitable Impact — Contributing an appreciated asset directly may allow more of its value to be devoted to charitable purposes than if the asset were sold and the after-tax proceeds donated.
Estate and Financial Planning — Charitable gifts may also play a role in estate planning, business succession, and other long-term financial strategies.
Tax consequences vary depending on the donor, type of asset, transaction structure, timing, and applicable law. Donors considering significant or complex gifts should consult their own tax, legal, and financial advisors before making a contribution.
